Transfer Selection Criteria

In recent years, the number of applicants for some campuses and some majors has far exceeded the number of spaces available. When a campus cannot admit all eligible applicants, it applies standards that are more demanding than the minimum requirements to select students. Using a process called comprehensive review, admissions staff look beyond the required coursework and grades to evaluate applicants' academic achievements in light of the opportunities available to them and the capacity each student demonstrates to contribute to the intellectual life of the campus.

To guide the campuses in their comprehensive review of applicants, UC faculty developed factors that can be considered. new windowThe transfer selection criteria are provided here. The campuses use similar indicators of academic and personal qualifications to evaluate applications; however, the specific evaluation process and weight of factors differ from campus to campus.

The level of performance needed to gain admission to particular campuses and programs varies from year to year depending on the size and academic qualifications of the applicant pool and the number of available spaces. Visit the website of the appropriate campus admissions offices for more information.
